Sanipac is phasing in use of biodiesel in its garbage and recycling trucks.
First in area, third hauler in state
(Eugene, Ore., Jan. 29, 2007) – Sanipac’s garbage and recycling fleet is converting to biodiesel in a move that matches the company’s commitment to make Eugene and Springfield a better place to live. Sanipac provides most of the area’s garbage and recycling services.
Sanipac has 85 diesel trucks. They will run on B20, a mix of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum diesel that is also used by City of Eugene and Rexius fleets. Conversion to biodiesel has begun and will be complete by April 1.
“We’re moving to biodiesel because it's another way Sanipac can be a good steward of our community,” says Rick Wichmann, Sanipac’s interim manager. “We think biodiesel will be a benefit, much like our blue box and commingled recycling programs have proven to be.”
Sanipac’s fleet runs 19 hours a day, 365 days a year. Sanipac’s diesel trucks use 350,000 gallons of diesel yearly.
Sanipac is the first recycling and garbage hauler in our area to use biodiesel and the first outside of metro Portland. Two Portland-area refuse haulers use biodiesel.
